TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) & PGT (Post Graduate Teacher)

“TGT” means Trained Graduate Teacher and “PGT” means Post Graduate Teacher. They are eligible for teaching in Higher Secondary schools.

These teachers have a master’s degree in the content area with a BEd degree. They are eligible to teach in classes XI and XII, which is called by different names in different parts of the country (+ Two, Higher Secondary, Intermediate, Pre-University).

TGT is Trained Graduate Teacher TGT is a term for a teacher whose teaching training has been completed. TGT is not known as a course, but it is a graduate trained in teacher education. If an individual is a graduate and has completed his B.Ed, then the person is a TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) and there is no need for teacher training to become a TGT. The trained graduate teachers or TGTs are eligible for teaching in the higher education level in any Kendriya Vidyalaya or such central government schools like Navodya Vidyalaya, Army Public Schools, among others.

  • The aspirant should pass the CTET examination paper II in their relevant subject. This examination is organised by NCTE as an entrance test for all TGT teachers.
  • They should be proficient in Hindi and English and must be able to teach in both these mediums.
  • They should have a B.Ed. degree from any recognised university. The degree should be completed before the submission of the TGT application.
  • The KVS TGT eligibility criteria are applicable for subjects like mathematics, history, science, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, social studies, work experience, art education, physical and health education.
  • Teachers should have a valid degree in physical education and five years of art education for their relevant subject from any MHRD affiliated institution.
  • The TGT eligibility for work experience mandates one with a three years diploma after higher secondary or degree in electronics from any government permitted Institute. Candidates who have one year of practical work experience in any factory are desirable.
  • Those who want to teach social science should have a degree in History or Geography with 50% marks with other subjects like Geography, History, Economics or Political Science and must have 50% marks in aggregate. Those who have an honours degree in History or Geography should pass the honours degree with 50% and must have studied a subject like political science, economics, history, geography, in their first or the second year of graduation with 50% marks in aggregate.
  • Those who want to teach in TGT Mathematics must have passed honours or general degree with Mathematics and should have studied a subject like physics, chemistry, electronics, computer science during graduation with 50% aggregate marks. Only candidates having BA or B.Sc. in mathematics are eligible.
  •  For the science post, the TGT requirement is an honours degree with Botany, Zoology or Chemistry with 50% marks in the main subject and 50% on subjects like chemistry, Botany, Zoology or Chemistry in graduation.
  • For the TGT English or Hindi or Sanskrit post, one should have 50% marks in the related subject and 50% in aggregate in the other two related subjects.
  • One should furnish the CTET certificate during the submission of the form.

 

PGT (Post Graduate Teacher) is moreover a post graduate having skills of teaching. They are meant to be teaching classes up to 12th Standard. This test is primarily qualifying in nature and is mandatory for aspiring teachers willing to teach in government schools run by central and states governments. Primarily, there are two types of teaching examinations take place –

1) CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) – This test is conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) and is mandatory for those who aspire to be teachers with schools run by Central government (NVS, KVS, Central Tibetan Schools etc.) and schools run by UTs (Union Territories)

2) State TET – States primarily conduct their own TET for those candidates who aspire to be teachers with schools under their control. However, a state can consider CTET in case it decides not to conduct the state TET

Levels in TETs – There are two levels of TETs. A candidate may choose either or both of the tests.

1) Level 1 Test – This test is conducted for those who aspire to become a Primary teacher (Class I to V).

2) Level 2 Test – These tests are conducted for those who aspire to become a Secondary Teacher (Class VI to VIII).

Post Graduate Teacher requires Masters Degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in aggregate in the concerned or related subjects and B.Ed. or equivalent qualification from a recognized University.

UP TGT PGT Eligibility Criteria 2021

The candidates applying for the UPSESSB UP Teacher must fulfill the required eligibility criteria set by the conducting authority. Eligibility criteria such as age limit, educational qualification is mentioned below have a look at it.

1: Nationality 

Candidates applying for Trained Graduate teacher in UPSESSB must meet the nationality criteria. Candidates must be a citizen of India to apply for this recruitment process.

2: Age Limit (As of 01.07.2021)

Candidates should also meet the age limit criteria for the TGT post. Candidates must not be less than 21 years of age to apply for the UPSESSB UP Teacher post.

3: Educational Qualification

Candidates should hold a Graduate Degree in Related Subject (they are choosing) and B.Ed/BTC or Any other equivalent training certificate.

  • TGT - Rs. 44900-142400, Pay Level 8, Grade Pay - 4600
  • PGT - Rs. 47600-151100, Pay Level 8, Grade Pay -4800

 

UP TGT PGT Teacher  2021 Selection Process

Selection will be based on Marks of Written Exam, Interview & Educational Qualification. Based on merit selected candidates are called up for Document Verification & another process.

  • Written Examination – 85% marks
  • Interview – 10% Marks
  • Special Qualification – 05% Marks

 

Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT)

  1. Written Examination + Weightage = 500 marks

 Post Graduate Teacher (PGT)

Written Examination (85% marks weightage) = 425 marks

Interview (10% marks weightage) = 50 marks

Special Qualification (05% marks weightage) = 25 marks

  • 2% marks weightage for P.hd/ D.Phil Degree

  • 2% marks weightage for M.Ed Degree

  • 1% marks weightage for For B.Ed Degree
