Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.)

B.P.Ed.or Bachelor of Physical Education is an undergraduate academic course dealing with the development and care for the human body. It is also referred to as B.P.E. which is an abbreviated form of the Bachelor of Physical Education degree course.

The course is offered at the Certificate Level. It is a full time course of 2 years. The course is basically for those candidates who have interest in starting their career as primary teacher. It is a career-oriented course. It is a 2- year certificate course which helps the candidates to work as the primary teacher in government schools after completing the course. They can apply in any of the government schools to work as Assistant Teacher. Basically, in every state, there are institutions which are offering BTC.

 B.P.Ed. - 3-4 year Course

B.P.Ed. whose duration is 3-4 years requires a candidate have passed +2 from a recognised board in any stream. Those who have taken physical education in 10+2 are more preferred.

Candidates should have completed the age of 17 years on the first day of July of the year of admission to the course.

The reserved candidates (SC/ST) will be given age relaxation as per Institute rules.

BPEd Admissions

BPEd admissions are provided mainly on the basis of candidates’ performance in the entrance exam conducted by different universities and colleges. A BPEd entrance exam can be divided into four main components:

Written Test: The test is aimed at evaluating candidates on subjects such as General Aptitude, General Knowledge, English, Science, etc

Physical Efficiency Test: This component of the exam tests the physical fitness of a candidate. The test may consist of physical activities like pull-ups, flexed leg sit-ups, shuttle run, 600-yard run, standing broad jump, etc

Game/ Sport Playing Ability Test: In this test, a candidate is assessed for anyone sport or a game of his/ her choice.

Personal Interview: The interview round aims at judging the overall personality of a candidate

 

Eligibility

For 3 to 4-year duration course students who have qualified their 10+2 examinations with minimum 50% marks from any recognized board are eligible. The number varies from one college to another. In some cases the minimum marks in the 12th may go up to 60%. 

For admission to the 3 to 4 year courses the candidates need to be at least 17 years of age or above.

For 1 to 2-year duration courses students who have obtained a bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks are eligible. The minimum percentage may vary from one college to another. In some cases the minimum number can go upto 60% or more.

For admission to the 1 to 2 years course the candidates need to be between 19-25 years of age.
